Comparing Dubai and Costa Rican Sustainable Tourism Development

Environment issue has became an interesting issue today, so its became a disscussion topics all over the world. Especially climate change issue, which affected to much human beeing. Much people disccussed about how to face the environment from the extinction and also the effort to face the earth. Every part of human life is explored to the effort to face the earth future from the possibility extinction. Every field, developed as possible as ecofriendly. Tourism industry is one part of this. Today tourism industry became an integral part of effort to face the human beeing. As we know today, much country developed their tourism industry based on sustainable tourism development concept which emphasised to ecnomomic, ecology, cultural and local sustainability. But each party have developed and implemented this concept differently, each party developed their project according to their national interest.

In this essay i compare the sustainable tourism implementation in Dubay and Costa Rica, this explanation is including the reason, sustainable tourism implementation, analysis and the community responses. This is an interesting topic, because today tourism industry have rising as an altenatives industry which give a huge donation to the national income. Generally this development is to increasing ecofriendly potential altenative income.

Dubay is the most crowded place in Uni Emirat Arab, much foreign people come to Dubay for bussines reason, trade, meeting. Government realize that the oil reserve would worn out immadiately if the oil consumption still arise and then they projected to to develop tourism industry as an alternative national income to assist the oil production. The government change their policy to development Dubay as an tourism destination. So they projected a huge invesment to create modern tourism image in dubay. By which they built much hotel, casino and shoping center especially to attract tourist and as a branding to their modern tourism destination. Tourism development visioned to face the future, high quality infrastructure, and ecofriendly.

They also developed shopping tourism, by implemented no tax for foreign direct investment and soft tax for import goods and also free personal tax. So they can offer special price in Dubai Shoppig Festival program. It held once a years for almost a month, because of it Dubay called as Shopping Capital of the Middle East. The other program to atract foreign tourism is they held International sport event, like Professional Golf Association and Dubai Open.

Dubai government have a vision to build Dubai as a favourite tourism destination. For this vision Dubai government encourage the foreign direct investment in the tourism field and also goods indutry. They built much high and unique building to gain their tourim image as modern tourism. To prove their vision the and create a high quality infrastructure such as, international qualified airport create a super project, called palm island. To built this island government have to reclamation the beach side. To prevent the coral damage, they developed technology to multiply coral gain.

On this island, they would built the biggest casino and also the highest and unique building. Like the spectacular Dynamic Dubai Tower, this is the first building which every floor can rotate 360­_­­ degree horizontally. This is the most luxurious buildig in Dubai. The developer said that this is ecofriendly project, because they have prepared this building with energy plan itself, like sun cell on every floor make it more independent. The other unique building is Hydropolis Hotel where placed in the water. This building was built for conservation, and energy management. The other tourism destination is museum. They have built Dubai Museum which shown the history of Dubay, the desert lives, traditional houses, etc.

This project can guarantee their economic sustainability by gaining their tourism capacity. This project have arisen the community properisity. And they can positioning their tourism industry as a modern tourism destination. By developed much huge project, they can supply much job field.

But in the other hand they exploiting tourism by built much building and create a palm island. As we know. The huge project must be have a risk, especially to the environment. Because this project have disturbed natural living around the project. Palm island and much high buildig will have destroyed the ecosystem. The policy to build much huge building and palm island protested by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), bercause this project have destroyed the natural ecosystem, which have builted long time ago. The reclamation procces have destroyed the coral ecosystem and make the water dirty.

The huge building create more risk to the environment, that is the huge building produced more carbon which endangered ozone layer. And also the huge building project need a high electricity consumption, in one side this need more resource to gain electricity productivity so they must burn more oil or coal. So i think it samilar with exploiting tourism industry for economic.

The Costa Rican tourism industry also developed based on sustainable tourism development too. Costa Rican tourism industri development based on their natural resources and local cultural. They have a natural beautiful scenery and rich living resources, such as mamals, bird, insect, flower etc. There is three kind of tourism object, there is mountain object, national park, and beach object.

Costa Rica developed their tourism industry as a ecofriendly tourism. Their effort to developed tourism industry is to encourage their image as an C neutral country, there is neutral production carbon. They developed ecoutourism to gain national income and the other hand this project help the goverment coserve the that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.

The Natural Preserve is the most famous tourism object in Costa Rica, in this place we can enjoy our traveling, enjoy the natural live, interact with local community in the jungle, and enjoy the protected forest area. Costa Rican tourism Industry offer a special natural tourism adventure. Such as Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park, this park placed between Santa Maria dan Cerro Von Seebach mountain. In this park we’re offered with traveling route accros this park, tourists are encouraged to interact with environment and local community, we can enjoy heat spring, also we can watching natural living like bird, mamals, insect, flower such as Jaguar, Eagle, etc. We also can enjoy the active mountain activity. In the other hand the.

Some naturalist or researcher called Costa Rican national park as an Life Eden, because in this place the can conserve and research much animals and plants species. In this green area much animal species and ecosystem can be conserved. Costa Rican forest became a special place for student because this place have a multiply use, there is as an educational tourism.

To encourage their plan to encourage the ecotourism implementation, they include this on their student curricullum. So they can developed a sustainable tourism by konserve the natural living and social living, but the other side they can gain their prosperisity and the local community can involve and developed their tourism object.

Generally Dubai didn't implemented their sustainability project as well as Costa Rican did, both of them have implemented sustainable development on their tourism industry. Dubai have developed their tourism industry based on economic development, and the other hand Costa Rica implemented their sustainable development based on natural conservation and social exploration. But Costa Rican implementation have a wider range, because they developed their tourism industry not only for economic reason, but also cultural, ecology and local community reason.

Dubai have developed their tourism industry prefered to gain their economic, but they didn't much concern to conserve the ecologycal sustainability. As they shown on their huge project Palm Island. Their project is based on their plan to create an modern tourism image. So they have much exploitatted their environment by built much huge building. This project have damaged the ecosystem around them.

Costa Rican tourism industry have developed as a natural interesting tourism destination. They developed their tourism industry is considered to conserve their natural living and natural resources, so they can keep it well as an part of their tourism destination and a coservation place. On the other side, this ecotourism model can be used as an education tourism. Because student not only take an adventure especially in the jungle, but also studying Costa Rican living richness.
